Weather and cancelling
As some of you will already know, we have had to take the unprecedented step of cancelling some of our visitors this weekend. We are sincerely sorry that we have had to do this. We are aware that many of you plan this weekend months in advance and believe me it was the hardest decision we have had to make in a while.
The ground at Fforest Fields is well drained and dries very quickly but with the continuing rain of the last month it became saturated and totally unsuitable for tents in some areas. It is a problem that we have not had to face before in 16 years of running the site and one we hope won’t crop up again for a while.
Much thought is going it to how we can provide pitches for tents with hook-up that won’t be a slimy black mess when people leave. In the past it wasn’t such a problem, tents were smaller, easier to move and visitors rarely wanted electric hook-up. There have been some good suggestions on UKCS about it and we shall be considering every aspect so we can continue to provide an environment that will cater for as many customers as possible.
It’s sods law that once we had made the decision and had rung people yesterday, the sun is now out and the ground will dry up but it is still wringing wet and will take a few days of sun and wind to get back to anything like normal.
