Thank you!

We have finally shut the gates for the winter. It's been a pretty unusual summer this year!  We want to thank you all for coming, we think that you have been quite outstanding, staying during the most awful weather, sticking it out.....very few visitors left  left early and to see children playing in wellies and coats in the pouring rain has been very special.

Many parents abandoned trying to keep their children dry and just wearing just flip-flops and a plastic mac they continued to give our newts a change of scene in buckets, mugs and any receptacles that would hold water.  Playing on the lake, mucking about in the ponds and streams, this is exactly what we wanted when we started Fforest Fields.  In between the childrens' holidays our other visitors have come and found the peace and quiet that they have wanted. Time to relax and read the papers, take a gentle walk through the woods, perhaps over the hill for lunch at the Severn Stars. We have had the pleasure of welcoming back visitors who have been coming for many years and introducing new ones to the delights of Mid Wales.  Our visitors have written the most lovely things about the campsite, not only to David Bellamy, which has allowed us to keep our Gold award for the tenth year running, but to a wider audience on campsite forums via the internet.  They have sent us emails and pictures of the time spent with us, comments left by children in reception and 'phone calls when they have got home to tell us how special they find Fforest Fields. We thank you all, most sincerely, they pleasure we get from running the site is only a reflection of your enjoyment.

Of course there have been the down sides; comments about our loo block,  a fellow leaving in a huff because George was mowing on the only evening that week that the sun shone. We take these complaints very seriously. Our loo block is looking a bit tired but it will be freshly painted again this winter, we are renewing the flooring and doing up the showers.  George works tirelessly  to keep it spotless, from first thing in the morning to last thing at night, I shouldn't think there is a campsite that cleans it's loos more, it's often felt like an uphill struggle this year with the amount of mud that has been dragged in too!  We long to build the new block, we will, it is an expensive outlay and at the moment it is not one that we can commit to. As I said before, anyone want to buy a cottage?!!

George, Will and Ken are making a new entrance at the moment.  We will be bringing the road a bit further towards the lake then turning into the site and crossing the middle ending up at reception. It will mean that all traffic will come and go this way, a prettier entrance and easier exit. It also means that the 'ends' of the site will not have a constant flow of traffic going past them and less dust in the dry times.   They are going to move the top dog walk to a special area above the Long Lake and we shall put some more hardstandings up where it was. Hardstandings have been in great demand this year! We also plan to put some AWPs in for large tents that will be staying a week or more. The cascades have been finished on the Round Lake, they look lovely with water gently spilling over into the lake, Ken is planning to build his Monet Bridge this winter so that should be in place by next spring. We hope to have the lake stocked with fish too and we will be able to welcome visitors who like to bring a rod with them!

It's been a busy year for us and it's not over yet!!

Hi to you all

I've been coming to the camp site for several years now and always have a great welcome and a good time. The shower blocks aren't that bad and are still functional!I always try to help and will often sweep and mop floors as equiptment is always available. It doesn't take a couple of minutes to tidy up after yourself. It's nicer for others who follow you. I'm sure the showers and toilets will last a while longer! As for mowing, George can come and mow my lawns day or night!!
Keep those dogs working this winter. Apparently, I will be nursery sheep dog trialing with Rosie next year. You will be seeing more of us then because a lot of trials are in your area!

Lots of love to you all

Alice and the collies

(P.S. Loved your hat Katie)

Thank you all for your lovely comments! Steve, I'm sorry to hear that Chris has been having a bit of a rough time recently, please send her our best wishes and we hope that all is sorted out. Bill, we are going to miss our resident photographer during the winter months....We need someone to record the changes we are making at the moment - I will have to remember to send George out with his camera! Alice, I know YOU clean up after yourself, it's only Ted Dog who lets the side down smilies/wink.gif And Carol, You are indeed the first to say it! We will have a Christmas message nearer the time!
