Penny drops!
We are starting to get quite booked up for Easter which is a great joy.
Powys County Council in their great wisdom have decided to close all but one of their Tourist Informaion Centres. We are so shocked...the only one remaining will be Brecon and they are hardly likely to do this area any favours. If any of you want to write in support of keeping this vital link between the public and the tourist provider please do, Brecon and Radnor Express, 11, Bulwark, Brecon LD3 7AE
There is no point writing to Powys because no-one seems to be interested in tourism there, I tried to speak to whoever might have made the decision, at least get their name and got passed from department to department. Of course, you, the visitors to this part of the world, needing information and help, are not important at all......makes you spit!

No, it's the downright sneaky way it has been done, we were expecting it to happen in about a year or so, giving Builth the time to finish a refurbishment on a lovely old building called the Strand Hall, and run the TIC from there. We don't especially gain from the system, other than the occassional overnighter wanting to know where to park their motorhome (Alice!!). But a lot of people who run farmhouse B & B's don't have a huge web presence and relied on the TIC passing on their information to the public. Mid Wales is not a great honey-pot for holiday makers, we have wonderful country, stunning walking but we have to work to get people to visit but we don't have sea or Beacons! Anyway I had the Brecon and Radnor Express on the 'phone this morning, I have spoken to both local and county representatives on the Council and to quite a number of local people involved in the tourist trade. It is of SUCH huge importance to the area. We won't stop it but we shall make a good noise about the underhand way it has been done. There have already been offers by people in Builth to run the office from their premises - I will let you know what happens!

I found your camp site years ago after visiting the tourist info centre at Rhaydar (probably spelt wrong!) These places are vital. With so many places of interest around Powys, it doesn't make sense. Not everyone visits the Brecon Beacons!!
