Sun in my office and fish in the lake!

For the first time this year the sun is shining in my office window! Not because it has been cloudy but because it is now far enough round in the sky to actually shine in the window in the late afternoon.....within a very short time it will be setting behind my back, between the hills of Carneddau.

Yesterday, after much searching, I ordered the fish for the Round Lake. Because the lake is 'on line'  (this does not mean it is connected to t'internet) with the stream we have to have fish that have a health check. Even though the Environment Agency gave us a pretty long list of suppliers, none were in our part of Wales, so the dear little tiddlers are coming from Wolverhampton!  Now I am chasing up on some leads for Brown Trout to put in the Long Lake.  I am afraid that the fish will be quite small this year but like children, they grow very rapidly and I do hope that visitors can get have some sport with them. We will not be selling the fishing commercially, just for the use of visitors to the site.

Ha! Bill, I know, we have been warned! The upside is that it might encourage the otters that we already know we have on the farm, the downside is that they will probably scoff all the little swimmers.......Alice, do you remember that wonderful series Ballykissangel when they put all the cardboard cutout sheep over the hills to try and fool the 'spy in the sky' - we could do that for you!

No sign of Penny Bow-wave at the moment. She and her mate made off when the lakes froze over, I expect they are at the nest that they used last year. We do have increasing numbers of duck on the Long Lake though. We are starting our programme of tree planting. Over the next two years or so we shall be putting in a large number to landscape the lakes. Nothing too close, but lovely 'proper' trees and shrubs and smaller, more ornamental ones, nearer the edges, in clumps.

Glad the fish are in cannot wait until they grow a lot bigger then i can relax in the country air, soak up the atmosphere of the peace and quite (apart from the odd cow and sheep!!) and dangle my maggot in the water. Hopefully catch a decent sized fish. Ps: You will need a section on the photo board for the catches, plus a new picture board in the site office, as i can garauntee this will get full very quickly.smilies/smiley.gifsmilies/cheesy.gifsmilies/grin.gifsmilies/kiss.gif

Rather reasureingly Mr. Haynes who delivered our fish said that otters prefer larger ones....so we might not loose these all in the first week! They are quite small at tha moment but apparently grow well and multiply....it's lovely seeing the rings in the water as they surface. (apparently those rings are beacons to herons - I never knew there was so much to keeping (keeping being THE word!) fish) Within in a very short time they had swum right over to the waterfalls on the other side of the lake. Lucky little people, what a lovely place to live! I am going to dig up some of the beautiful yellow flag irisis that we have growing on the farm and re-locate them to the lake side.

No, not yet John! We should of but with about 1,000 fish I ran out of names after Peter Perch, Tabathia Tench and Caroline Carp.......any suggestions would be welcome!! Perhaps we can just call them 'Fishy-fishy-fish-fish', they don't seem to come to anything yet! Like our cat who is called Cat because that's what she reacts to when we tell her off!!

Geroge says this is why none of them have been answering - we don't have any Peter Perches, we have Roger Roaches instead....stoopied me!!
