A poem
We were sent this poem a couple of days ago - it is a lovely start to the new season. I hope that many of you can come and enjoy Fforest Fields and feel the same way! When we first set the campsite up we both said that we wanted it to be as we remembered camping. We didn't have loo blocks, just a loo tent with a hole in the ground.....although Kevin, who wrote the poem says that was a bit grand! We will be open in a couple of weeks and we want to take this opportunity of welcoming you all to Fforest Fields, returning friends and new visitors. We will make you welcome and hope, with the weather on our side preferably, that you have a relaxing and refreshing stay with us. Thank you Kevin for sharing this with us!
When I was a youngster, just a wee lad, I used to go camping with mum and dad
Not on a grand scale, a weekend break, pull into a farm or a field with a lake.
Dad was a soldier and worked in the stores, Monday to Friday completing his chores,
Then borrow a tent, some pots and pans, and then stop at a store to buy some cans.
Devon in the 60’s when money was tight; we were never far from a potential site,
The farmer waved as we pitched our tent, never thinking of asking for rent,
We played for hours and loved the sights, and slept like babes on very dark nights,
Then wake in the morning to be given tasks, find mushrooms for breakfast and fill the flasks.
Alas camping changed as I grew older, there was rent to pay and summers were colder,
A club was built on my favourite site, which ruined the peace we had sampled at night,
The farmer scowled as he took our rent, demanding more for the size of our tent,
More families came and dropped their litter; I was starting to feel a little bitter.
Camping for me was no longer fun, no more lazy days lying in the sun,
But that all changed one day last year, when I found a website that brought some cheer,
Look at this site called Fforest Fields; let’s take a look and see what it yields,
We went for a look, we had nothing to lose, and we might even get an afternoon snooze.
How glad we are that we gave it a go, stayed longer than planned, didn’t want to go
We loved it so much we got back there again; we saw no sun but plenty of rain,
But that didn’t matter, such a wonderful place, and everyone there has a smile on their face,
We’re booked this year for a restful week, and planning a second trip as I speak.
