Old Photographs

Shelley emailed me yesterday with the URL of some photographs that the National Library of Wales are putting on the web. They are absolutely fascinating and just the start of the programme of uploading photographs for the public to see and be able to interact with. If you go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/llgc/ you can see them all. There are quite a number from round here and one in particular, the turkeys on the road near the end of the pictures, is taken on the road to Builth by a farm called Gellicadwagan at Llanfaredd.

Shelley told me that her father, Sean McGuire, was going to be interviewed by BBC Radio Wales this morning at 7.40 so George and I clustered round the radio, freezing in our pi-jay's. Firstly a representative from the Library said how important it was to be able to interact with the public and for the public to be able to see what is available at the Library, then they asked Shelley's father the importance of it all. He has been doing a lot of research on his family background and was able to recount that she had emailed me that I had recognised one of the photographs, which is the whole reason for the Library doing the project. Result!  And a VERY nice mention of Fforest FIelds on the Radio. Thank you Shelley's dad!!

I have mentioned the Library before after a visit I made to  it a couple of years ago. It is well worth going to, beautifully arranged and absolutely fascinating. It is in Aberystwyth so you get a wonderful drive thrown in!
