At last! News about AWP's
Twitter is NOT going to take over my life! I am sorry that I have not kept up with news from Fforest Fields, I have no real excuse....just busy times, which has been wonderful!
We have continued to get on with the all weather pitches. Such has been the success of the few that we did, we have now added another 10 to the originals, we are determined not to cover all the tent areas in them but they give us so much more flexibility that I think we have the number about right now. People who have used them have been very enthusiastic about them and grateful that they have been put on one, especially over the last couple of weeks!
They are specifically designed for tents (although small campers and caravans are welcome to use them when they are not being camped on!) Covered in a layer of small pea gravel they are comfortable to walk on and take normal pegs. We undertook quite a lot of research into the best surface to use before we plumped for the particular one we have chosen.
There are many aspects that are good about them It means that we can have tents to stay as long as they want without having to move, this is in response to the growing size of tents and the natural reluctance of their owners to move them once they are in place! Small tents will still be fine on grass, as long as you move them after about five or six days. If you are booked onto an AWP you are most welcome to bring a footprint or tarpaulin to go under the tent, or carpets to go inside. You still step out onto grass!
I am going to have a page on the website all about the All Weather Pitches with photographs very soon!

We stayed with you for 10 nights from 27 July. I have to admit as George led us over to the AWP I was a little worried that we would be very exposed to the 'wonderful' weather! I needn't have feared - it was positively one of the best pitches we've had in 18 years of camping. We pitched back to the wind so were able to use the porch of the tent regardless of the, at times, torrential rain! The inside of the tent stayed lovely and firm and dry, none of the squelching underfoot we had to persevere with whilst camping last summer in somerset. We love the way you've developed the site over the past 10 years or so (we have pictures of our daughter learning to walk there) without losing any of its beauty or charm. See you again next year.
