End of another season!

It’s a windy day outside so it seems a good time to sit in and write some news for you all.  It’s been far too long since I last wrote as I keep getting reminded and although I have a small excuse during the busy months of July and August, I have less and less of an excuse now!

I try to keep up with some latest bits of Facebook but I know that a lot of our faithful followers are not on it, so I apologize.

What a year we have had! It’s been busy, although I think that we had slightly less spur-of-the-moment campers in August than normal because it was sooo cold. Although the sun shone, the wind blew from the north east and I think that it put people off; ‘what shall we do this weekend, go to Fforest Fields for the night? ‘Brrr no! Let’s snuggle up in front of a fire at home!’

We have closed early this year, normally open until the end of October, we shut last week to prepare for some building work we are hoping to carry out this winter. I am not going to say what, in case I jinx the final decision, but I think that some of you can guess. We have our fingers tightly crossed and rest assured you will be the first to know if it does go ahead!

The debate of all weather pitches grumbles on amongst devotees of a certain caravan forum site. We are totally committed to them. While there have been one or two problems with groundsheets rubbing, it has inevitably proved to be a fault in the erection. We suggest that you bring an extra ground sheet to prevent this and put something (Pringle lids are ideal!) under the legs of anything static, like a table. We also suggest that you put the tent on the edge of the AWP which prevents the round stones being dragged in.  We now have many people who won’t use anything else, and several who are pitched with us for three weeks won’t go anywhere else because they would either be forced to move or end up camping on a mud-pie of a pitch!  We won’t ‘cover the site’ in the all weather pitches and we continue to welcome visitors who want to camp on grass of course but they are an invaluable tool in running a site in the age of large tents and wet summers!

On a personal note, thank you to all who came and stayed over the August bank holiday. Thank you to the wonderful friends who took over the running of the site and shooed us off for the weekend, not letting us come home early and making sure that we enjoyed the wedding to the fullest!  We didn’t fill the campsite right up, no groups and everyone to arrive on Friday - is this the way forward for B/H’s?!  We already limit the number we take over a holiday weekend but everyone there on the Friday was so lovely for visitors on Saturday with no one arriving and taking space while others were out. I can see why some sites do it!

So thank you everyone for visiting Fforest Fields this year, thank you old friends and new ones for spreading the word about our site. We promise that we shall continue to run it as we always have, honesty, fun, few rules just consideration of other visitors.

Hi Katie,, Tina and I wish we could have been with you many more times than we were this year. That was why we bought the trailer tent. Her work means we need to "llow for others" when we decide to up sticks and move for the weekend. Our time at your site is really enjoyable where we "recharge our batteries". Come what may we will endeavour to come down more next year.

Be Safe. Pa&Tina.
