Adventure Activities in Mid Wales

If you are looking for an adventure, then Mid Wales has it all.  From steady activities such as canoeing on the River Wye or walking on the tops of the hills, to high-adrenaline mountain biking and exploring the region on the back of a trusty steed.   Adventure is all around you in mid Wales!

Cambrian Safaris

Cambrian Safaris provides trips in a 4×4 into the remote landscape of the ancient Cambrian Mountains. Your host, Richard, lives and breathes this region and has a fantastic knowledge of the secret beauty spots, local history and wildlife.  Bespoke tours are arranged to suit your group and budget.  This is a unique and exciting way to experience the region.

Llangorse Multi Activity Centre

Perfect for little ones and adults, this multi-activity centre in the Brecon Beacons offers a range of adventurous activities to fill any scrapbook.  From climbing and high ropes, you can challenge yourself at every turn.  There is also a riding centre, low-level bouldering and an extensive natural rock caving system. Llangorse Multi Activity Centre is open all year round.

Underhill Riding Stables

Underhill Riding Stables has a fantastic set up and ever-helpful staff, you can arrange pony trekking, half day rides or even full day rides with a stop off at a local inn for lunch.  The stables are nestled in a particularly beautiful set of hills towards Knighton, offering wide-ranging views and freeing riding on open moorland.

Bryngwyn Riding Centre

Bryngwyn Riding Centre is small but perfectly formed, with well-ridden and well-mannered horses that are perfectly suited for novice to more accomplished riders.  The centre is family run and very friendly, set in the hills it offers exceptional rides out into the local area. Staff at Bryngwyn also have experience with disabled riders, giving everyone a chance to ride in this unique corner of mid Wales.

Mountain Biking

There is exceptional Mountain Biking right from the site at Fforest Fields, with an entire farm to explore and courses designed by top riders weaving through the forest.  The region is starting to get more of a reputation for mountain biking with rugged trails and utterly breathtaking views to reward even the toughest climb.  Get in touch with the friendly team at Cycle-Tec in Builth Wells if you’d like to talk about Mountain Biking in the region, or to hire/discuss bikes!

Kayaking & Canoeing

We have some kayaks at the campsite that you can borrow, which are always popular! There are also some great river runs in the area, including on The Wye and Usk rivers. Talk to Pete at PSM Outdoors or Aubrey at Want to Canoe? to find out what water-based adventures you could embark on during your stay.

Paragliding is one of the most incredible ways to see the countryside, it is an exhilarating sport that takes you as close as you’ll get to feeling like a bird! It is a highly weather dependent sport but if you are looking to experience a tandem flight or even learn the basics while staying at Fforest Fields then do get in touch with Steve at Mid Wales Paragliding Centre. You will sometimes see paragliders at Fforest Fields, when the wind is right they launch from the hill above and are wonderful to watch!

Wild Swimming

As a family we have always loved swimming in open water.  From amazing hidden plunge pools to river swimming to leaping into our own lake here on the campsite. Wild swimming is fantastic at any time of year, the water can be cold in the autumn/spring and is very bracing in the winter! But there are plenty of places to discover around here and we are more than happy to share some of favourite spots if you ask when you are on site!
