Christmas Lunch in Mid Wales

We are so looking forward to welcoming visitors over the festive period. The campsite at Christmas is a special place; quiet, wild, beautiful and a chance to get away from it all.  Creating a Christmas meal in a caravan takes a very particular set of skills and almost inhuman patience, so if you are looking for turkey and all the trimmings then there are some great local pubs and restaurants in mid-Wales serving Christmas meals on the 25th December.

From Pub to 5* hotel here are some suggestions for you in case you can’t go through the festive period without a taste of turkey and a cracker joke!

The Hundred House Inn, Hundred House
(1 mile from the campsite)

The Hundred House Inn is our local pub and will be cooking up a storm in the kitchen this Christmas. The pub is just a mile from the campsite and the walk to it is mostly along a winding farm path, so you can enjoy the great outdoors on the way! Getting back after a Christmas meal may be more of a challenge, but the track is mostly level – unless you fancy taking a diversion up and over the Aberedw Hill!

The Wheelwright Arms, Erwood
(7 miles from the campsite)

The Wheelwright Arms in Erwood is a short drive, with great local atmosphere, there will be delicious home cooked food. Call Dave 01982 560 740 if you want to book but he told me this morning that he’s not got many places left. They have a good old sing-song round the piano and people dropping in all day!

The Metropole, Llandrindod Wells
(7 miles from the campsite)

The Metropole is just seven miles away.  The drive ‘over the hill’ to get to The Metropole is spectacular, you can even stop off en route on Rogo and enjoy a walk with views that stretch far into the distance. The Metropole has an excellent head chef and they will take great pride in welcoming you to a full Christmas lunch. They also do an evening buffet if you’d rather walk up Pen-y-Fan first to work up an appetite!

Caer Beris, Builth Wells
(5 miles from the campsite)

Caer Beris is a fine old house set beside the River Wye on the outskirts of Builth Wells. The Christmas menu looks delicious and this would be my choice if I wasn’t planning soup and sandwiches by the seaside!

Llangoed Hall, Llyswen
(14 miles from the campsite)

For a real one-off special there is Llangoed Hall. A Four star, three red rosette, fine dining hotel.  While a pricey option they assured me, it will be a unique experience as you not only get a six-course meal, fireworks in the evening and a local male voice choir but also a Scottish piper too!

Of course, we shall have our local sausages and bacon if a banger bap is more your style!
